Loving Life in the Yoop!

Here on the market farm spring has barely sprung and we are already busy busy busy. We are continuing to work on the farm store build out. Jose finishes the framing. Now we just have to wait for road restrictions to lift so we can pour the concrete. Our first batch of chicks hatched. Jose prepped the brooder and we added another 150 eggs to the incubator. Time to hatch out the meat birds. Mac and Stephanie fill up the greenhouse and germination room with more plant starts including the ginger and turmeric. Aaron stopped by to our fruit trees their first trimming. Lastly we put nest boxes in with the rabbits. It has been many months since we did a tour of our farm and market garden. We have some exciting new animals here on the farm. This week we welcome 4 katahdin ram lambs to the farm. We will be raising these boys on pasture for the summer for an early fall butcher. We are really enjoying our new animals. The wind plays havoc with our equipment and makes setting a plumb line impossible for Jose. He wants to get the hoop houses lined up correctly so we can install end walls. The wind tortures him before he quits. We also get a very cold night that threatens the crops in the hoop houses. Luckily Jose took the time to double cover everything and it looks like it did the job. We don't find any freeze damage on the crops. #marketgardening #upperpeninsula #farming Thank you for watching! Jose and I get down to some real competition here on the farm. Who can put the brackets on their hoop house rebar faster. We had a little fun while erecting our second two hoop houses. Its about time to get down to the real planting for the season. Jose gets to work cleaning out the chicken coop. We need to create a space for the 4 ram lambs we are getting this spring. We can't wait to add this new dimension to the farm routine. Mac is busy planting in the hoop houses. Things are getting busy here on the farm and we need to be planting, but first the Wash/Pack station needs to be completed. We are about to be harvesting and need the ability to wash vegetables. Jose get the beds prepped in the first two hoop houses. He also plants out the spinach, salad mix and radishes. Always something to do here on the farm. Jose and I need to get to our spring planting done. This means the plastic is going up on the hoop houses. Will our marriage survive? The germination room and greenhouse are full. We need to get planting so some of the trays can get moved out. There just isn't enough space so we are playing a lot of musical trays. Jose gets the chickens moved out on pasture finally. They are happy to be out with fresh grass and bugs. Jose also gets one of the hoop houses pulled down so we can move it to its new location.
